Walking Time
Real Time Motion Picture
Walking Time is a film with a dynamic timecode. The movie itself is a ten-minute sequence of people walking at the grand fountain in the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris.
The movie uses Internet traffic as a resource to generate its timecode. High traffic creates an accelerated timecode, while low traffic will enable the timecode to decrease and so reducing the framerate and ultimately causing the movie to reverse.
timecode.org presents a preview of 40 seconds, enabing the timecode generator to set the picture in motion.
Walking Time makes it possible to see a film in real time. The film choreographs what initially appears as a coincidental happenstance. Scenes are now repeated, suggesting a further and ulterior relationship of the protagonists; made possible through the event of its real time.
